The drive to be perfect can be overwhelming, but usually not achievable. So here are some mental meanderings on recipies, nutrition, health, Do-It-Yourself (DIY), friends, family, politics etc...because we are all Perfect...not so much :D
I agree with the green stuff-especially since I usually can save some money too while I am helping the environment. I do use rags for cleaning, wash them and use again. Paper towels are for really yucky stuff-pet messes, fat and oil removal, and very little else. I love to recycle as much as possible. I use Freecycle, Craigslist, Salvation Army, Shelter for Abused People, Home and Hope for the homeless for useful items and clothing. I donate to the VA hospital-quilted lap robes from scraps and bigger quilts with recycled clean mattress pads inside or blankets for the homeless veterans who live under the bridges.I ask all my friends who travel to save the little soaps, shampoos etc so the vets can use them. They are brought to the VA Hospital for showers and clean clothes but waste a lot if they are given a big bottle of "stuff" as they can't take it with them and have to throw it out when they leave it behind! PTSD is a really bad thing and many Vets cannot be inside or around people! So anything I can do to help our heros is OK by me. I use the low wattage florescent light bulbs, turn off appliances and lights when not in use. Especially the high energy wasting ones that heat and cool. Turn your thermostat up in the summer and yake off a layer and down in the winter and add a layer. High wasters are irons, ovens, stoves, use the microwave instead, turn down the hot water heater if you having a dishwasher that heats or buy a new on demand system.) Add extra insulation in your attic and check your duct work for holes and air leaks. Patch or replace them and put extra insulation over and around them. Saving water is a good thing as there are many places where water is scarce. Turn it off when you are not actually using it, like brushing your teeth and washing your hands, shower together more fun anyway! All of this saves the earth for the next generation, saves you money and works!
